다양성 시대에 모두 함께 조화를 이루며 살아가기 위해 꼭 필요한 활동을 해온 사회 혁신가들이 있습니다. 우리는 이들을 ‘아쇼카 펠로우’라 부르며, 이번 전시에서 12명의 펠로우를 소개합니다. “무한한 다양성의 시대 속 각 펠로우가 발견한 문제의식과 새로운 아이디어는 무엇일까요?” 위 질문에 답을 찾아가는 이번 전시는 약자 - 혐오 프레임을 가진 기존의 카테고리가 아니라, 우리 모두의 삶을 둘러싸고 있는 의식주 그리고 오감의 경험을 통해 펠로우의 활동을 살펴봅니다. 우리는 펠로우의 발자취를 따라가며, 그들을 움직인 영감의 원천을 가늠할 수 있게 됩니다. 우리의 몸, 감각, 주변과의 관계 속에서 마주하기 싫은 낯선 소리들, 불쾌한 냄새, 잊힌 가치들, 외롭고 소심한 마음에도 펠로우의 시선이 머물러 있습니다. 그들은 결핍과 혐오 속에서도 기존 힘의 역학(Power Dynamics)과는 다른 ‘새로운 힘’을 찾아냈습니다. 펠로우의 창의성은, 작고 억압된 약함을 향한 공감에서 시작되었습니다. 그들이 발견한 약함은 결국 힘이 되어 다양성과 개인성이 종종 충돌하는 우리 사회와 혼란의 시대를 살고 있는 모든 이들을 위로합니다.
There are social innovators, who have made significant contributions for the humanity to live harmoniously in today’s ‘Diversity Era’. We call these innovators ‘Ashoka Fellows’, and in this exhibit, we are presenting 12 Fellows to you. “What are the problems and new ideas that each Fellow has discovered in the middle of an infinitely diverse world?” To search answers for the question, we take a closer look at Fellows’ activities through a quotidian lense of necessities of life and five senses, rather than the usual categories of the weak and hate. As we retrace footsteps of the Fellows, we begin to imagine the origins of their inspirations. Amidst our own body, senses, and external relationships are undesirable, unfamiliar sounds, smells, buried values, and a lonely, faint heart; This is where the Fellow’s warm gaze remains. Despite deprivation and hostility, Fellows unearthed new powers, distinct from secular power dynamics of the world. Empathy towards the small and oppressed has ignited their creativity. This newly found weakness transforms into a power that fuels and comforts our often conflicted, chaotic society and everyone who lives it daily.
아쇼카(Ashoka)는 “모두가 체인지메이커인 세상”이라는 비전을 가진 글로벌 비영리 단체입니다. 아쇼카 펠로우(Ashoka Fellow)는 아쇼카에서 직접 선정 및 지원하는 사회혁신가로 사회 문제를 창의적으로 해결하는 사람들입니다.
